Warren Reid, 92, of Brewster, died December 1, 2019. Warren was born in 1927, in Brewster, Kansas to Fred and Anna (Goetsch) Reid, the oldest of five boys. Warren attended Brewster Grade School and Brewster High School, graduating in the class of 1945. He enlisted in the Navy and served on the battleship USS Iowa, which was stationed in Japan in the immediate post-war period.
Warren married Bonnie Mallory on August 10, 1949 and resided on a farm north of Brewster. Three children; Lance, Nathan, and Laurie were born while the family lived on the farm. Warren took a job as bookkeeper with Coffey Grain in 1964 and the family moved to a home in Brewster. They lived in that home for 53 years. Following Bonnie’s death in March, 2018, Warren moved to live with son Lance in Andale, Kansas, but he always considered himself a Brewster resident.
Warren took over management of the grain elevator and Coffey Grain transitioned to Reid Grain. He was active in the community, serving on the school board for the Brewster schools, the city council, city mayor, city recreation committee, the Brewster Lions Club, and was one of the organizers of the Brewster Bank. He was a member of the Brewster United Methodist Church.
Following his retirement from the grain business, he returned to farming for a few years. Much of his retirement was spent in his well-equipped shop, building furniture as well as numerous bird feeders and bird houses which were placed throughout the back yard. He loved watching the birds and squirrels attracted by his crushed grain and peanut butter.
Warren was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie, parents Fred and Anna Reid, and brothers Delmar, Royal, and Jerry.
Left to remember Warren is brother J Austin (Dotti) of Overland Park, sons Lance of Andale KS and Nathan (Judy) of Topeka KS, and daughter Laurie Jones of Kismet KS. Grandchildren include Josh (Brit) Reid of Dallas TX, Jordan (Amanda) Reid of Brewster, Jay (Brianna) Reid of Atlanta GA, Jalyn (Heath) Baird of Atlanta GA, Jeff (Stevi) Reid of Edwardsville KS, Jayde Reid of Atlanta GA, Eric (Angela) Jones of Meade KS, Amanda (Ryan) Kisner of Kismet KS, Mallory Jones of Oklahoma City OK, and Julie (Braydon) Robinson of Turpin OK.
