Longtime Goodland, Kansas resident T.J. Martin, 83, died Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Wheat Ridge Acres in Goodland.
Thomas Joseph “T.J.” Martin was born February 1, 1930, at Hays, Kansas, the son of Phillip J. and Ruth (McClure) Martin. T. J. grew up on the family farm north of Quinter, Kansas. He attended country school and also at Park.
On April 15, 1952, he and Patricia Marie Goetz were married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Park. In 1967, they moved from Park to Goodland. He farmed, hauled cattle for Duane Neitzel, and then drove for Yellow Freight Company.
He was a member of Our Lady Of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.
Preceding him in death were his wife Patricia M. Martin; parents; six brothers Phillip, Johnny, Pat, Rodney, Francis, and Marcus; sister Ruth Ann Kaiser of Quinter; and one grandson Tom Tiede.
Surviving family includes his daughter Patty Tiede and her husband Mitch of Goodland; son Larry Martin and his wife Peggy of Aurora, Colorado; son Terry Martin and his wife Deborah of Goodland; five grandchildren Pat Tiede and his wife Andrea of Manhattan; Tyler Martin and his wife Mandy of Goodland; Talen Martin of Goodland; Erica (Tiede) Spangler and her husband Joe of Garden City; Tarren (Martin) Buford and her husband Jonathan of Fowler, Colorado; and six great-grandchildren T.J. Tiede, Eric Tiede, Jacie Tiede, Rylea Martin, Baylee Buford, and Jaelyn Spangler.
The Memorial Mass for the Deceased will be Friday, March 8, at 10:30 AM MT, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Goodland, with Father Norbert Dlabal presiding. Inurnment will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.
Vigil will be at on Thursday, at 5:00 PM MT, at Koons Chapel, with visitation beginning at 3:00 PM MT.
