Longtime Sharon Springs, Kansas resident Thomas Leroy Barton, 88, departed this life on March 27, 2013, at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune, Kansas.
Tom was born July 28, 1924, in Wallace, Kansas, the son of Faye (Bowman) and George Leroy Barton. He graduated from high school in Wallace, attended Kansas State University, enlisted in the United States Navy, and then returned to western Kansas after an honorable discharge. He was a car enthusiast, 18-wheeler trucker, and pilot, as well as a farmer and salesman for a tractor company.
He and Emma Lou Wormeringer were married and to this union were born sons Vernon Leroy Barton and Jerry Lee Barton. Tom and Emma later divorced. Tom and Erma Barnes were married and later divorced. Tom and Bonnie Bolen Knouse were married and they made their home in Sharon Springs.
Tom enjoyed farming in Wallace County, and fishing in Rockport, Texas. He was a good neighbor, protective big brother to his sister Nadine, and beloved husband to Bonnie.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Surviving family includes his wife Bonnie Barton of Sharon Springs; sons Vernon Barton of Scott City; and Jerry Barton of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren; and sister Nadine Harbaugh and her husband Bud of Mont Belvieu, Texas.
The funeral will be Tuesday, April 2, at 10:30 AM MT, at the Parish Hall in Sharon Springs, with Father Norbert Dlabal and Reverend Paul McNall presiding. Burial will follow in the Sharon Springs Cemetery.
Friends may share their respects on Monday, from 3:00 until 6:00 PM MT, at Koons Funeral Home in Sharon Springs.
