Wallace County, Kansas resident Thelma May Maxine Luther, 89, died Thursday, December 27, 2012, at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune, Kansas.
She was born March 7, 1923, at Wallace, Kansas, the daughter of Ina Mae (McKinley) and Henry Earl Mather. She attended country schools in Wallace County.
In 1939, she and Lloyd Aaron Luther were married at McAllaster, Kansas. They had lived first in Wallace County, followed by Logan County. She helped with the farming and was a loving mother. After selling the farm in Logan County, she moved back to Sharon Springs in 1981.
She had been a member of the Assembly of God Church, and then the Wesleyan Church. She was also active in Home Demonstration Unit, in the Senior Center, in the Silver-Haired Legislature, and as a 4-H leader. Thelma was an active member of the Wallace County Jolly Neighbors.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Lloyd Luther, son Lyle Eugene Luther, and grandson Lloyd Allen Luther.
Surviving family includes her children Phillip Luther and his wife Carolyn of Oregon; Margaret Chitwood and her husband John of Conway Springs, Kansas; Loren Luther and his wife Darline of Sharon Springs; Michael Luther and his wife Diane of Goodland; seven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be Wednesday, January 2, 2013, 10:30 AM MT, at the Wesleyan Church in Sharon Springs, with Reverend Paul McNall officiating. Burial will follow in the Sharon Springs Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 1, 2013, from 3:00 – 6:00 PM MT, at Koons Funeral Home, Sharon Springs, Kansas.
