Longtime Wallace County, Kansas resident S. L. Daily, 88, died Monday, May 2, 2016, at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune, Kansas.
He was born April 22, 1928, at Haviland, Kansas, the son of Mary Ann (Daily) and Shelton Lee Daily. He attended grade schools at Cullison and Haviland, and graduated from high school at Haviland. He had been baptized in the Quaker church in Haviland. Upon moving to Wallace County, he transferred to the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church.
On November 5, 1950, he and Goldie Louise Lock were married at her family’s rural home near Wallace, Kansas. From 1954 through 1956, he served his country in the United States Army Signal Corps. Together they farmed and ranched. He was a community leader with 4-H, a past president of the Wallace County Farm Bureau, and a past member of the Fort Wallace 7th Cavalry.
Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers Maurice, Ivan, and John; and two sisters Virginia Gile and Sylvania Gully.
Surviving family includes his wife Goldie Daily of Wallace; seven children: Lynn Daily and his wife Kathy of El Dorado; Curtis Daily and his wife Melinda of Wallace; Gail Lewis and her husband Dan of Dresden; Ann Husband and her husband Fred of New Caney, Texas; Laura Stegman and her husband Daryl of Spearville; David Daily and his wife Jori of Sharon Springs; Edith Jensen and her husband Trevor of St. George; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Saturday, May 7, at 10:00 AM MT, at the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church, with Pastor Duncan Ibuuri and Reverend Paul McNall officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Wallace Cemetery in Wallace.
Friends may share their respects on Friday, from 4:00 until 6:00 PM MT, at Koons Funeral Home in Sharon Springs.
Memorials may be designated to Wallace County 4-H or to the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church, and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N Main, Goodland, KS 67735-1555.
