Longtime Wallace County, Kansas resident Robert Frank Charles, 76, died Saturday, September 15, 2012, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.
Robert was born June 13, 1936, at Sharon Springs, Kansas, the son of William and Elsie (Neusbaum) Charles. He served his country in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in February 1963.
On December 31, 1965, he and Helen Joanne Talbott were married in Raton, and they made their home in Wallace County, Kansas. He was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Sharon Springs, the Farm Bureau Board of Directors, and the Knights of Columbus. He was a former Wallace County School Board member and a former Board member of the Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland.
Robert enjoyed working cattle, riding his four wheeler, and especially going to watch his grandchildren’s ballgames.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Joanne in Oct. 2011, an infant sister Mary Johanna, a brother Bill Charles and a sister Mary Allaman.
Surviving family includes; son Robert Charles of Ulysses; son David Charles, his wife Dana, and their children Faith and Kyle, all of Oakley; son Andrew Charles, his wife Dee , and their children Darrell Brownlow and Daniel Brownlow, all of Topeka; daughter Patricia Oborny, her husband Tim, and their children Audra, Wyatt, and Cordell, all of Bison; son Lonnie Charles of Sharon Springs; daughter Rebecca Scheck, her husband Windy, and their children Hunter and Harley, all of Hoxie; son Stephen Charles of Goodland; son Matthew Charles of Sharon Springs; daughter Jenifer Charles of Goodland; daughter Stephanie Enockson, husband Wayne of Brighton, Colorado, and their son Jackson who is due on October 20.
Also surviving are his brothers Harold of Hoxie, Kansas, John of Fargo, North Dakota, and James “Jim” and wife Joan of Leadville, Colorado.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday September 20, at 10:30 AM MT, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Sharon Springs, with Father Norbert Dlabal presiding. Burial will follow in the Sharon Springs Cemetery with military honors by the U.S. Navy.
Friends may share their respects at Holy Ghost Catholic Church on Wednesday September 19, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM MT. Vigil and rosary will follow at 7:00 PM MT.
