Longtime Goodland, Kansas resident Ricardo Richard Vasquez, 55, died Monday, August 13, 2012, at Goodland Regional Medical Center.
He was born December 9, 1956, at Tahoka, Texas, the son of Maria J. and Natividad Vasquez. The family moved to Goodland to make their home in 1971. Richard graduated from Goodland High School with the class of 1975, and from Northwest Vocational-Technical School in the automotive department in 1976.
On June 28, 1980, he and Janie Gomez were married at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Goodland, and they made their home in Goodland. He worked at Coca-Cola for twenty-five years as district manager. Most recently, he was the maintenance supervisor at Wheat Ridge Acres. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Being with his family, working in his yard, and hunting were some of the times he especially enjoyed.
Preceding him in death was an infant sister Melinda Vasquez.
Surviving family includes his wife Janie Vasquez of Goodland; daughter Sandy Vasquez of Goodland; son Keith Vasquez and his wife Kristen of Johnstown, Colorado; one granddaughter Alexi Vasquez and one grandson expected in October; parents Natividad and Maria Vasquez of Goodland; sister Janie Juarez of Plainview, Texas; twin brother Raul Vasquez and his wife Susan of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; brother Joe Vasquez and his wife Becky of Ottawa; sister Maria Gomez and her husband Jesse of Greeley, Colorado; sister Dulci Fyfe and her husband Dennis of Goodland; brother Nate Jr. Vasquez and his wife Kerri of Goodland; and special friend and neighbor Elmira David of Goodland.
Vigil and rosary will be Friday, August 17, at 6:30 PM MT, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Goodland.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, August 18, at 10:00 AM MT, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, with Father Norbert Dlabal presiding. Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be designated to the Richard Vasquez Memorial, and may be left at the service, or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main, Goodland, KS 67735-1555
