Longtime Sharon Springs, Kansas resident Phyllis Van Allen, 96, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 21, 2015.
She was born October 22, 1918, near Stockton, Kansas, the daughter of Edna Louise (Butler) and Leslie N. Lindahl. She graduated from high school in Phillipsburg, Kansas.
On January 2, 1937, she and Cecil Merle Van Allen were married in Phillipsburg, and they lived on a farm near Phillipsburg until they purchased the John Deere Implement Company in Sharon Springs in 1947, naming it Van Allen Implement Company. Phyllis was a homemaker, taking care of her children, her home, and yard. She was an excellent seamstress and made most of the clothing for her children when they were growing up. Her memberships included United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Order of the Eastern Star Goodland Chapter 122.
Preceding her in death were her husband Cecil Van Allen, who died in 1980; her parents; sister Maxine Van Allen; grandchildren Lynnette Kaye Van Allen, Brian Keith Van Allen; and daughter-in-law Janet (Cowles) Van Allen.
Surviving family includes sons Cecil Leroy Van Allen of Tucson, Arizona; Larry Van Allen and his wife Pat of Sharon Springs; Robert Van Allen and his wife Barbara of Wheeler; Richard Van Allen and his wife Cathy of Sharon Springs; Jerry Van Allen of Topeka; daughters Patsy Studt and her husband Charles of Hutchinson; Janet Weigel of Great Bend; grandchildren Judy Teichmann and her husband Shawn of Hutchinson; Deborah Neal and her husband Roger of Lenexa; Wayne Studt and his wife Paula of Thornton, Colorado; Jennifer Ockerman and her husband Dan of Highland, Maryland; Leslie Van Allen of Corvallis, Oregon; Darren Van Allen and his wife Candice, Craig Van Allen and his wife Sharon, Kevin Van Allen and his wife Angie, Sandra Van Allen, all of Sharon Springs; Scott Van Allen of Guymon, Oklahoma; Cassondra Laughlin and her husband Troy of Goodland; Tamara Ehr of Emporia; Janell Cape of Cheney; Jay Weigel of Hoisington, Jeffrey Weigel and his wife Danielle of Ellis; 29 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law Bud Van Allen of Phillipsburg.
The funeral will be Tuesday, May 26, at 10:30 AM MT, at the United Methodist Church in Sharon Springs, with Pastor Keith Anglemyer officiating. Burial will follow in the Sharon Springs Cemetery.
Friends may share their respects on Monday, from 3:00 until 6:00 PM MT, at Koons Funeral Home in Sharon Springs.
