Lifelong Wallace County, Kansas resident Phyllis Nadine Hurley, 77, died Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.
She was born December 18, 1934, in the family sod house north of Weskan, Kansas, the daughter of Alta L. (Cambridge) and Howard B. Collins. She graduated from high school at Weskan with the class of 1952.
She and Ceyldon Keith Magwire were married at Weskan, and to this union were born Debra Lynn, Darrell Lane, Dana Lea, Daniel Leon, and Alta Gladys. Keith preceded her in death in 1971.
On May 17, 1975, she and John Hurley were married at the Weskan Methodist Church. Her memberships included the Weskan Methodist Church, Weskan Willing Workers. She was a former EMT and HAM radio operator. She enjoyed watching Professional Bull Riding.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her first husband Keith Magwire, infant daughter Alta, son Darrell, brother-in-law Raymond Baehler, and brother-in-law Gary Hurley.
Surviving family includes her husband John Hurley of Wallace; daughter Deb Bussen and her husband Kenan of Sharon Springs; daughter Dana Magwire of Wallace; son Daniel Boone Magwire and his wife Donna of Sharon Springs; step-sons John Hurley of Mt. Vernon Indiana; Mark Hurley and his wife Audrey of Aurora, Colorado; Justin Hurley and his wife Tasha of Garden City; twenty-seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother Howard Collins of Osage City; sister Linda Simons and her husband Ron of Weskan; and sister Janice Mote and her husband O.D. of Weskan.
The funeral will be Saturday, August 25, at 10:30 AM MT, at the United Methodist Church in Sharon Springs with Reverend Paul McNall and Reverend Keith Anglemyer officiating. Burial will follow in the Weskan Cemetery.
Memorials may be designated to Miles of Smiles, a non-profit therapeutic horse riding program benefiting those with Cerebral Palsy, located in Garden City, Kansas. They may be left at the service or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main, Goodland, KS 67735-1555.
