Goodland, Kansas resident Pauline Dorothy Baird, 94, passed away February 17, 2014, at the home of her son Jim and wife Sue Baird in Goodland.
She was born on March 17, 1919, in Colby, Kansas, the daughter of Lydia Caroline Frances (Theimer) and Gurna William Lewallen. Pauline attended grade school at Saline Country School, eleven miles north of Winona, Kansas, two miles north of their farm, and graduated from Winona High School with the class of 1936.
On July 24, 1937, she and William Robert “Bob” Baird were married, and they made their home on the Baird farm north of Brewster in Rawlins County. Later, they lived in Salem, Oregon, returning to live in Goodland, Kansas, this past twenty years. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Brewster. Cooking, fishing, gardening, playing cards with the girls, and traveling with Bob in their motorhome were some of her favorite things.
Preceding her in death were her husband Bob Baird; son Perry Rae Baird; daughter Dorothy Janette Davis; grandson Brian Davis; parents; infant sister Jean Lewallen; sisters Louise Palmgren, Maxine
Dawes, Doris Knox, and Allie Helin; and brother Francis Lewallen.
Surviving family includes her son Jim Baird and his wife Sue of Goodland; grandchildren Perry Baird and his wife Terry of Goodland; Larry Baird and his wife Lilia of Zacatecas, Mexico; Alan Davis of New York; Scot Davis of Los Angeles, California; ten great-grandchildren Benjamin Baird, Katie Winzer and her husband Zach, Aaron Baird and his wife Lilia, Julia Wahl and her husband Matt, Melissa Baird, Isaac Baird, Nicholas Davis, Danielle Davis, Nicole Davis, and Chase Davis; four great-great-grandchildren; brother Robert Lewallen of Winona; and many other family members. She will be missed very much, but her life was and is in Jesus’ hands. To God be the glory.
The funeral will be on Monday, February 24, at 10:30 AM MT, at Koons Chapel in Goodland, with Pastor Perry Baird officiating. Burial will follow in the Brewster Cemetery.
Friends may share their respects on Monday, from 9:00 AM MT until the service at Koons Chapel.
