Nina Spencer

August 3, 1924 — March 5, 2015

Lifelong Goodland, Kansas resident Nina Jeanne (Stephens) Spencer, 90, died Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Liberty Heights in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

She was born August 3, 1924, at Mankato, Kansas, the daughter of Marie (Bowling) and Leonard Stephens.   She graduated from Sherman Community High School in Goodland, with the class of 1942, and then furthered her education at Colorado State College in Fort Collins, Colorado.

On November 21, 1945, she and Richard F. Spencer were married at Plainville, Kansas, and they made their home in Goodland.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death were her husband Richard Spencer, her brother Jack Burke, and her parents.

Surviving family includes her three children James Spencer and his wife Barbara of Goleta, California; David Spencer and his wife Ruth of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Lori McKenzie and her husband Don of Goodland; nine grandchildren Michael Spencer, Jon Spencer, Dan Spencer, Tim Spencer, Adam Spencer, Matt McKenzie, Linda Martinez, Scott Levad, and Greg Levad; fourteen great-grandchildren; and sisters Sharon Mann of Goodland; and Jan Weis of Fort Mohave, Arizona.

The funeral will be Monday, March 9, at 10:30 AM MT, at Koons Chapel in Goodland, with Reverend Lew Van Der Wege officiating.  Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.

Friends may share their respects on Sunday, from 3:00 until 6:00 PM MT, at Koons Chapel, with the family present at 3:00 PM MT.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be designated to Northwest Kansas Area Medical Foundation, and may be left at or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N Main, Goodland, KS  67735-1555.
