Goodland, Kansas resident Mildred A. (Johnson) Hawkins, 88, died Monday, August 22, 2016, at Wheatridge Acres in Goodland.
She was born September 13, 1927, in Cheyenne County, Kansas, the daughter of Maud (Pettit) and Wilber Johnson. She graduated from high school in St. Francis, Kansas, and then furthered her education at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas.
On June 5, 1948, she and Donald Ray Hawkins were married at Goodland. She worked as an abstractor and with title insurance. In 2014, she moved from her home in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Wheatridge Acres Care Center in Goodland to be closer to her family.
Preceding her in death were her husband Donald Hawkins, parents, sisters Carol Gattshall and Marvel Pelphrey, and brothers-in-law Bob Wieck, Chuck Pelphrey, and Wayne Gattshall.
Surviving family includes her son Michael Hawkins and his wife Mary of Kansas City, Missouri; daughter Jacque Schields and her husband Dale of Goodland; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and sisters Shirley Wieck of Goodland; and Margie Peter of St. Francis.
The memorial service will be Saturday, August 27, at 2:00 PM MT, at Koons Chapel in Goodland, with Pastor Lyn Linde officiating. Private inurnment will be at the Benkelman, Nebraska Cemetery.
Memorials may be designated to Northwest Kansas Animal Shelter, and may be mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main, Goodland, KS 67735
