Lifelong Wallace and Sherman County, Kansas resident Marvin Duane Cullens, 83, died Saturday, March 19, 2016, at his home in Goodland, Kansas.
He was born October 20, 1932, in Wallace County, the son of Vica Ethel (Newell) and William Wesley Cullens. He attended schools in McAllaster and Winona, Kansas. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1950 through 1953. On May 23, 1955, he and Edis Arlene Marcotte were married in Winona. In 1965, he moved from Sharon Springs to make his home in Goodland. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a life member of the Deer Trail Elks Lodge.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers LaVere and William “Bill”; two grandchildren Daniel Cochran and Jacob Cullens; and one great-granddaughter Juliana McKee.
Surviving family includes his seven children Marlin “Jeff” Cullens and his wife Linda of Independence, Missouri; Tonia “Toni” Griffin and her husband Frank of Burlingame, Kansas; Patricia Wagner and her husband Jerry of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee; Sandra Cullens of Plano, Texas; Kevin Cullens and his spouse Jim Laughlin of Tempe, Arizona; Gerald Cullens and his wife Michelle of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland; Yvonna White and her husband Tim of Sherman, Texas; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and sister Evadene McMillen and Allan Sherod of Goodland.
The funeral will be on Thursday, March 24, at 10:30 AM MT, at First United Methodist Church in Goodland, with Pastor Lyn Linde and Dr. Chet Ross officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.
Friends may share their respects on Wednesday, from 4:00 until 6:00 PM MT, at Koons Chapel in Goodland.
Memorials may be designated to Goodland VFW, and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main, Goodland, KS 67735-1555.
