Wallace County, KS resident Marlene C. Bolen age 92 passed away on April 2, 2024 at Goodland, Kansas.
Marlene, the second child of Julius and Martha Deines, was born of April 23, 1931 at the Deines farm home south of Wakeeney, KS.
Her grade school years were at the Trego Center Country School. She attended her first two years of high school at Wakeeney. The family moved to Wallace County in 1946 and she graduated from W.C.H.S. with the Class of 1949.
Marlene Deines and Bill Bolen were married August 13, 1950 at the Methodist Church in Sharon Springs, KS. To this union two children, Brenda and Bob were born. For all but ten well-loved years living in the Sand Hills of Nebraska, the family made their home in Wallace, County, KS.
Marlene enjoyed gardening, cooking, camping, and especially, watching her grandchildren rodeo. Being a great grandma was a special joy. She maintained a close relationship with her siblings Harold, Shirley and Janice. Marlene enjoyed working for 20 plus years at the Sharon Springs grade school as a para professional in the special education and chapter 1 reading program.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Bill Bolen, grandson Garrett Nokes and great granddaughters Jalee and Kylee Hawkins, and Sister Shirley Parr.
Surviving family members include her children Brenda (Steve) Morell of McCook, NE. Bob (Lori) Bolen of Sharon Springs, KS. Grandchildren; Justen (Ashley) Nokes, Jamie (Austin) Hawkins, Laura Nokes, Jandie Fanning, Joni Bolen, Jace (Laura) Bolen, Great Grandchildren; Trevor and Parker Nokes, Halli Nokes, Jess Fanning, Luke and Colsen Rush, Jacob, Wyatt, Josie, and Allie Bolen. Brother Harold Deines of Sharon Springs, sister Janice (Don) Metcalf of Colorado Springs, CO. Sister in laws Marie (Gary) Walker of Maryville, TN and Marlene Bolen of Wallace, KS and many more adoring nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sharon Springs Methodist Church and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS 67735.
