Longtime Goodland, Kansas resident Margaret “Margie” Richards, 99, died Friday, February 8, 2013, at Goodland Regional Medical Center.
She was born March 15, 1913, at Ellinwood, Kansas, the daughter of Martha (Lebbin) and Frank Schmidt, and was raised by her grandparents Carl and Minnie Schmidt. She graduated from Ellinwood High School.
On July 15, 1934, she and Ray T. Richards were married at the Lutheran Church in Ellinwood. They lived in Ellinwood and Wichita until 1952, moving after Ray's graduation from chiropractic college to make their home in Goodland. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, China Painters Guild of Northwest Kansas, Business and Professional Women, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary of Ellinwood.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Ray T. Richards, her twin sister Martha Unruh and a half- sister Virginia Clevenger, and son-in-law C. Wendell White.
Surviving family includes her daughter Vickie R. White of Goodland; granddaughter Shelley R. Messner, her husband Roger, and their children Jason and Courtney, all of Olathe; Lisa A. Murphy and her son Ryan, both of Salina; C. Brandon White, Denise White, and their daughters Brianna, Berkley, and Kelsey, all of Goodland; nephew Roger Clevenger and his wife Charlotte of Ford; and cousins Hugh & Elaine Nethercot of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Barbara Wixson of Kansas City, Kansas; Margie Cooley of Derby; Lynda Senko of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The memorial service will be Monday, February 11, at 10:00 AM MT, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Goodland, with Pastor Darian Hybl officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.
Friends may share their respects at Koons Chapel on Sunday, from 3:00 until 5:00 PM MT.
