Longtime Kanorado, Kansas resident Lois Jean Winter, 86, died Friday, October 19, 2012, at her home in Kanorado, surrounded by loving friends.
She was born November 7, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Leona Houser, and was raised by her Grandmother Reed. She attended Sherman Community High School in Goodland.
On May 27, 1947, she and Wayne Winter were married at the Thomas County Courthouse in Colby, and they made their home at Kanorado with their four children, Don, Jerry, Janet and Jeanette. She kept busy with the four children, and helping Wayne with his aerial spraying business. After Wayne passed away, Lois became quite the world traveler. We all enjoyed listening to her stories of the lands far, far away. Lois was a very talented painter, and enjoyed her days of painting with her ladies. She was proud to be a part of the Kanorado Museum, and donated many hours towards the success of the museum. She truly loved this area so much she compiled the book titled ‘Kanorado Kansas’.
Preceding her in death were her husband Wayne Winter, her step-son Don Winter, her twin daughters Janet Kenny and Jeanette Meyer, her mother Leona Houser, her Grandmother Reed, her sister Jacqueline Reed, and granddaughter Angie Winter.
Among those she counted as family left to cherish her memory includes numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and friends.
The memorial service will be Thursday, October 25, at 11:00 AM MT, at the United Methodist Church in Kanorado.
Memorials may be designated to the Kanorado Senior Center or the Kanorado Museum, and may be left at the service, or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main, Goodland, KS 67735-1555.
