Goodland, KS resident and former Amarillo, TX resident, Lloyd W. Bergsma, 91, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at Topside Manor in Goodland.
Lloyd was born on June 24, 1928 Southeast of Goodland at the ranch home. He attended school at Edson Consolidated School, then Kansas State University. He returned to Goodland to partner with his father in the operation of the ranch/farm. Later he continued his education at Colorado State University, where he graduated in 1958.
Lloyd was on the staff at Texas A&M University as an Associate Professor, specializing in Livestock Marketing. He came to Amarillo in 1967 to assist in the establishment of the Texas Cattle Feeders Association where he served as Executive Vice President. After leaving the Association, he was involved in the real estate and investment business in Amarillo. During this entire time, he continued to manage his farm operation in Kansas.
He was a member of the St. Stephen Methodist Church in Amarillo. He was a life member of the Goodland Masonic Lodge #321 and a life member of the Goodland Elks Lodge #1528. Lloyd had a strong interest in athletics and supported the sports programs at WTAMU.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Roger Bergsma, and his sisters Mildred Wright of Sherman Co., Irene Hadra of Shreveport, LA, and Josephine Nimz of Goodland, KS ,
Surviving family includes his wife Joan, a son Michael (Connie) Bergsma of Corpus Christi, TX, He is also survived by his grandchildren Amy (Colby) Stapp of Shawnee, KS, Deborah (Jonathan) Strasser of Memphis, TN, grandson Bradly (Christa) Bergsma of Goodland, KS; a step-daughter Barbara (David) Johnson, step-son Steven Lee.
