Longtime Goodland, Kansas resident Lenna J. (Merklin) Studer, 72, beloved wife of Fred Studer, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed from this earth early Saturday, November 21, 2015, at her home.
She was born March 5, 1943, in St. Francis, Kansas, youngest of nine children of Myrtle Frances (Wyant) and Lemuel Edmond Merklin. Lenna grew up in the St. Francis area and attended schools there.
On January 14, 1961, she and Fred Studer were married in Goodland, and they would have celebrated fifty-five years together this coming January. To this union four daughters, ten grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren were born. While raising her
children, she worked seasonally for Great Western Sugar as a lab foreman, and later as a scale operator. She also worked at the carwash at Herl Chevrolet. Once her children had grown, she spent many years traveling the country driving cars for Herl Chevrolet, a job she loved and took as a personal challenge to see how quickly she could make the trip there and back. During this time, she also helped her husband Fred for twenty-six years in Fred’s Auto Repair, the business that they owned together.
Preceding Lenna in death and welcoming her home were her parents; her father-in-law Hugh Studer; mother-in-law Florence Studer; sister Nadine Miller; brothers Dale, Charles, and Gary Merklin; brother-in-law Lloyd Studer; and several nieces and nephews.
Surviving family members who will miss her very much include her husband Fred; daughters DeAnna Denny and her husband Mike of North Platte, Nebraska; LeAnna Peters of Shawnee; Connie Grieve and her husband Kenneth of Goodland; Lainie Studer of Castle Rock, Colorado; grandchildren Sara Werth and her husband Chris, Dusty Goodwin, Robert Denny and his wife Katy, Fred Price and his wife Sally, Tracy Peters, Andrea Graves and her husband Zeb, Daniel Denny, Joseph Denny, Alyssa Studer-Yarger, and Aaron Denny; twelve great-grandchildren; siblings Leon Merklin and his wife Darlene of St. Francis; William Merklin of Meade; Janice Dey of Lawrence; Marlin Merklin and his wife Peggy of Hutchinson; sisters-in-law Barbara Merklin of Bird City; Peggy Merklin of Council Bluffs, Iowa; brothers-in-law Floyd Studer of Goodland; Earl Studer and his wife Ruth of Superior, Nebraska; hundreds of nieces and nephews; and long-time good friends Bert Carr, Pat Allaman, Sharon Bowker and Sharon Blythe.
