Wallace County, Kansas resident Lawrence Denning, 92 died June 17th 2024 at home in Sharon Springs, KS. Lawrence was born December 6, 1931 at Ellis, Kansas, the son of Emmeram and Pauline (Bieker) Denning. He was one of six children. He attended school in Ellis and Park and graduated from Park High School in 1949 in Park, Kansas.
He served in the United States Air Force in Japan from 1952 to 1956, he and Louise Laevenstein were married at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Collyer, KS on July 28, 1952.
Lawrence worked for Union Pacific Rail road in Sharon Springs, Kansas for 42 years the last 4 years in Omaha, Nebraska in banking operations and drove truck for Pletchers Trucking Company 20 years. He loved to fly his airplane and gave many rides to family, friends and Boy Scouts. He also flew many chartered flights for various friends and businesses. He also enjoyed having family and friends around. He loved swimming, and taught several kids how to swim and above all loved to dance.
Preceding him in death were his parents Emmeram and Pauline, two brothers Albert and Ernie.
Surviving family includes his wife Louise, and his 4 children Debra (Jason) Buerge from Fountain, CO, Sheryl Denning from Lawrence, KS, Brenda Rotell from Denver, CO, Richard (Mary) Denning from Loveland, CO. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren and 3 siblings Elmer Denning from Grinnell, KS, Don (Millie) From Monument, KS and Marge Ausmus from Winona, KS.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024 at 9:00 AM MT at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Sharon Springs, KS. Burial will be held at 2:00 PM CT at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in WaKeeney, KS.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM MT at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church, with Vigil and Rosary service at 7:00 PM MT.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Ghost Catholic Church and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS 67735.
