Lauri Smith

Longtime Sharon Springs, Kansas resident Lauri Sue Smith, 51, died September 18, 2013.

She was born January 10, 1962, at Fremont, Michigan, the daughter of Barbara (Deuling) and Patrick Salisbury.  She graduated from Newaygo High School and from Central Michigan University, with a Masters Degree in Speech Pathology.

On July 26, 1986, she and Ray Smith were married at Newaygo, Michigan. They lived a short time in Greeley County, Kansas, before moving to a farm southeast of Sharon Springs.  They have called this area home for the past twenty years. She was a member of Risen King Community Church in Weskan, Kansas.

Preceding her in death was her father Patrick Salisbury.

Surviving family includes her husband Ray Smith of Sharon Springs; two sons Preston Smith of Sherman, Texas; Nick Smith; daughters Alicia Smith and Lindy Smith, all of Sharon Springs; mother Barbara Salisbury of Fremont, Michigan; sister Cindy Smith, her husband Mark of Wallace, and their children Valarie (Oscar) Rivera of Wallace, Angie (Edward) Robson of Sharon Springs; sister Sheri Scott, husband Daniel, and their sons Kyle and Chad, all of Ada, Michigan; brother Steve Salisbury of Fremont, Michigan; three nieces, four nephews, two grand-nieces, and two grand-nephews.

The funeral will be Monday, September 23, at 2:00 PM MT, at the United Methodist Church in Sharon Springs, with Reverend Mike Kuykendall officiating.  Burial will follow in the Greeley County Cemetery in Tribune, Kansas.

Friends may share their respects on Sunday, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM MT, at Koons Funeral Home in Sharon Springs.

Memorials may be designated to Wallace County Ministerial Alliance, to be used for area youth groups and worship teams, and they may be left at the services or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main, Goodland, KS  67735-1555.
