La Donna Ackerman, 81, of Lenexa, KS passed away November 3, 2020, at the Olathe Health Hospice House due to cancer.
She was born February 18, 1939 in Goodland, KS to Rolla and Bernice Ackerman. La Donna grew up on the family farm near Brewster, KS and graduated from Brewster High School in 1957. She also graduated from Kansas State University in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority.
Following college, she moved to the Kansas City area where she was employed at Business Men’s Assurance Company of America and TWA. La Donna then moved to Denver, CO and worked for Storage Tech. After Denver, she lived in Minneapolis, MN where she worked at Northwest Airlines before returning to Kansas City. She enjoyed the challenges of her work as a computer analyst and was an innovator in the field.
La Donna loved to travel. She went on frequent trips to places such as Australia, China, Peru, as well as several locations across Europe. She also enjoyed visiting art museums, watching foreign films, gardening, painting, reading and cheering on the K-State basketball and football teams. La Donna was a devoted sister, aunt and friend. She delighted in spending time with her loved ones and giving them meaningful gifts.
Her parents, Rolla and Bernice Ackerman, her aunt, Rita Ackerman and her brother, Ronald Ackerman, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her sisters Karen Lucas, Gardner, KS and Cheryl (Dale) Swiggett, Edmond, OK. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including Lea (Vaughn) Studer, Olathe, KS; Lane Linthacum, Goodland, KS; Suzanne (James) Davis, Richardson, TX; Darren (Nicole) Swiggett, Jenks, OK; Ron (Valerie) Ackerman, Gering, NE and Robert Ackerman, Scottsbluff, NE, as well as some great nieces and nephews, and many extended family members and friends.
