Longtime Wallace County, Kansas resident LaDean Lynn Unruh, 77, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune, Kansas.
She was born July 4, 1937, at Halstead, Kansas, the daughter of Iva (Buller) and Harry Unruh. She attended schools at Hesston and Russell Springs.
On July 24, 1955, she and Richard Lee Unruh were married at the Mennonite Church in Pence, Kansas.
She was an active member of the Wesleyan Church in Sharon Springs. She was instrumental in working with others to start and continue in support of the Wallace County Ambulance Service in Sharon Springs. As a Cub Scout leader and later a Girl Scout leader, she gave her time to the community’s youth, as well as initiating the “ski group”. She was the Kansas activities director for the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brother Carl, and sister Ethel Mae Eicher.
Surviving family includes her husband Richard Unruh of Sharon Springs; three sons Dennis Unruh and his wife Lois of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania; Gary Unruh of Gaithersburg, Maryland; Jason Unruh and his wife Lori of Sharon Springs; daughter Linda Blakely and her husband Kent of Kearney, Nebraska; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother Weldo Unruh and his wife Gladys of Scott City; four sisters Lillian Shultz and her husband Steve of Moundridge; Cora Peters of Olathe; Elizabeth Unruh and her husband Mike of Iroquois, South Dakota; Irene Smith and her husband Michael of Clarksdale, Mississippi.
The funeral will be Monday, July 21, at 10:00 AM MT, at the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church, with Reverend Paul McNall officiating. Burial will follow in the Sharon Springs Cemetery.
Friends may share their respects on Sunday, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM MT, at Koons Funeral Home in Sharon Springs.
