Kenneth Okeson

October 12, 1924 — July 11, 2014

Lifelong Weskan, Kansas resident Kenneth Alvin Okeson, 89, died Friday July 11, 2014 at the Wichita Heart Hospital, Wichita, Kansas.
Kenneth was the grandson of Swedish Immigrants that homesteaded south of Weskan in the Stockholm Community. He was born on October 12, 1924 at home, in the area known as Chance, Kansas. His parents, Olaf and Karin Cecilia (Johnson) Okeson, lived south and east of Weskan and raised four sons and one daughter. Kenneth was a graduate of Weskan High School.
Kenneth was baptized on January 1, 1925 at the Sharon Springs Lutheran Church, was confirmed on June 6, 1937 at Bethany Lutheran Church and was a member until his death. He loved his church and served many years on both the Church Council and the Quad Parish Council.
He married Evelyn Jane Miller on February 3, 1946, at Bethany Lutheran Church in the Stockholm Community, and they lived on the homestead just north of where his parents lived. They had five boys; Donald, Warren, David, Clinton and Darrel. His love of farming was important to him and he still enjoyed helping out whenever the guys needed him.
Kenneth was an active member on the Stockholm Township Board, Board of the Rural Water District, and U.S.D. #242 School Board. He spent many years and traveled many miles to watch his family participate in sports. He also looked forward to going to the CO-OP every morning for coffee with his friends.
Preceding Kenneth in death were his parents, wife Evelyn, son Clinton, three brothers, and one sister.
Surviving family members are his sons; Donald and wife Judy of Weskan, Warren and wife Linda of Olathe, David and wife Diane of Winfield and Darrel and wife Connie of Weskan. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
