On Wednesday, January 22, 2025, Keith Paul Jostes, our eternal light of joy and mischief, entered heaven’s gates and into the loving arms of his parents. Keith was the youngest of five children born to Gene and Rosemary (Lobmeyer) Jostes. He was born on October 18, 1965, in Burlington, Colorado. His birthday was his favorite holiday and will never be forgotten, as it was always a special day for Keith and all those who loved him.
From the very beginning, Keith was known for his playful, mischievous nature. He had an uncanny ability to sneak out of the house and even made his way across Highway 24 for an ice cream a time or two. As a child, Keith was surrounded by a circle of loving babysitters who helped care for him while his parents owned and worked at the Gambles store. He also looked forward to attending Easter Seals camp in the summers.
Keith’s parents, ever dedicated to his well-being, drove countless miles to ensure he received an education suited to his needs. Although Keith lived in Stratton, he attended schools in Flagler and Burlington, where he graduated in 1984. Proud to be a Burlington Cougar, he cherished the lifelong friendships he made and was an enthusiastic participant in activities like bowling and the Special Olympics, where he earned several ribbons.
After graduation, Keith moved to Dynamic Dimensions in Burlington, where he lived for 40 years. He loved the people at DDI and participating in the programs they offered. Keith also worked at the Little Brick Creamery in downtown Burlington and enjoyed the donuts, pop, and visiting with friends. Keith never met a stranger---his friendly greetings and warm heart were a signature part of who he was.
Keith had many loves in life, including his beloved dog, King, and a long list of favorites like The Dukes of Hazzard, Elvis Presley, Garth Brooks, Toby Keith, Pop Tarts, pizza, Diet Pepsi, and of course, football. Football was a passion, and he often jokingly referred to himself as “the coach.” He was an avid fan of the San Francisco 49ers and, more importantly, the Stratton Eagles, faithfully attending their games. Keith was also one of the luckiest scratch lotto winners ever.
He loved his family and the weekends and holidays spent with them in Stratton were always a highlight. He enjoyed going to church at St. Charles in Stratton and working on his “yarn” on the loom his dad made him. Keith took great pride in his creations, earning ribbons and prize money at the fair.
In recent months, Keith’s health began to decline, and he passed away at Grace Manor Care Center, surrounded by the love of his family, who will miss him deeply. Keith’s warmth, humor, giggle, and infectious smile will be remembered by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, joy, and endless laughter, and he will forever be cherished by his family and friends. We will miss our turkey, lucky duck, hambone, squirt, lover boy, Joe Montana and John Elway lover forever.
Keith is proceeded in death by his parents, grandparents John and Marguerite Jostes and Mary and John Lobmeyer, brother-in-law Roy Ingram and great-nephew Everett Jostes.
He is survived by his sister Jane Ingram, brothers Kent (Daneen), Kevin, Kurt (Dayla) Jostes. Nieces and Nephews: Christopher, Karl (Tiffany), Gabe (Tori) Ingram, Alissa (Brandon) Bowers, Phillip (Megan) Jostes, Danika (Braydon) Maxwell, Maura (TJ) Hernandez, Tyleen (Cody) Jensen, Madison and Anna Jostes, Johnna (Lukas) Fehrenbach, Derek (Ashley) Jostes, Kezia (Jason) Brandon, Karlee (Dusty) Jostes. He is also survived by 27 adoring great nieces and nephews, many aunts, uncles, cousins and his DDI family.
In Lieu of Flowers, Memorials may be made out to DDI and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS 67735.
