Longtime Goodland businessman Keith Eugene Engel, 71, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at his home in Goodland.
He was born April 5, 1941, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Eugene A. and Eleanor Marie (Leiker) Engel. He graduated from Russell High School in 1959. He then went to work for Safeway, retiring in 1979.
On February 14, 1979, he and Jody Bloom were married at her parent’s home in Goodland, and they made their home in Goodland, where they went into business with her parents Lyle and Juanita Bloom, opening B-E’s Jewelry. Keith retired the second time in 2003, when they closed the jewelry store.
He was an avid golfer, and he enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. Former memberships included Isis Shrine, Masonic Lodge, Kiwanis, and Elks Lodge.
Preceding him in death were his parents, daughter Pam Atkinson, and son David Engel.
Surviving family includes his wife Jody Engel of the home in Goodland; son Mark Engel of Ponca City, Oklahoma; daughter Shelly Morris of Kingfisher, Oklahoma; daughter Audrey Corke and her husband Eric of Goodland; daughter Ashley Brown and her husband James of Topeka; ten grandchildren Destiny Atkinson, Shawnda Atkinson, Jordyn Engel, Jeremy Engel, Geoffrey Morris, Jason Morris, Talon Corke, Teagan Vaughn, Danika Corke, and Reese Brown; and brother Donald Engel of Denver, Colorado.
Memorials may be made in Keith’s name to the donor’s choice, and may be left at or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N Main, Goodland, KS 67735-1555.
