Kara Lane Johnson, 47, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024 surrounded by her family at the Goodland Regional Medical Center in Goodland.

Kara was born on November 24, 1976, in Burlington, CO.  She is the daughter of Ronda (John) Henry and Stan (Dawn) Kibel.  Kara’s birth made the 5th living generation to her family tree.

Kara was in the class of 1995 at Goodland High School.  Kara married Ryan Johnson on April 16, 1994.  They celebrated their 30th anniversary last month.

She received her degree in Criminal Science Investigation in 2016 from the NWK Technical College.

Kara was a past member of Kiwanis and a volunteer for Genesis.  She really enjoyed volunteering.

She was an avid reader and a spelling champion.  She was an incredibly gifted artist.  Kara enjoyed drawing, painting and many craft and DIY projects.  She was famous for her cheesy hashbrowns, a super bowl tradition.

Surviving family includes her husband Ryan; children Stetson (Alexia) Johnson, Shelby Johnson and fiancé Eli Lewis.  She is also survived by her parents, her siblings Justin Kibel, Kevin (Candice) Kibel, Michelle Kibel, and Holly (Cole) Van Winkle; her in laws Robert (Oly) and Linda Johnson; brother-in-law’s Robert (Sara) Johnson, Rick Johnson; a sister-in-law Miranda (AJ) Ostmeyer and her precious grandsons Seifer Simoneau and Wren Johnson.  She is also survived by her grandmothers Carol Tupper and Letha Kibel, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Kara loved her family beyond measure and will be greatly missed by all those who loved and knew her.   Kara’s most treasured job was being stay at home grandma (momo).

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 10:00 AM MT at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Goodland with Pastor Don McMillan officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kara Johnson Memorial Fund to be used for her Grandchildren’s Education, and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS 67735.
