Sharon Springs, Kansas resident Justin “JC” Church, 35, died Sunday, August 25, 2013, at his home.
He was born May 4, 1978, at Wray, Colorado, the son of Rob Church and Bobby Butkovich. He graduated from Arickaree High School in 1997. On May 5, 2007, he and Amy Collins were married at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Wray, Colorado, and they made their home in Sharon Springs, Kansas.
For the last five years, he had been a lineman with Midwest Energy. He was a partner in Stateline Electric in Sharon Springs with Jay Sharp and Corey Klassen. He volunteered with the Sharon Springs Fire Department and as an assistant football coach at Weskan Schools. Riding motorcycles, hunting, guns and all sports were activities that he enjoyed, but at the top of the list was being with his children.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents Carl “Bud” Walker, Genevieve and George Church, and Betty Butkovich.
Surviving family includes his wife Amy, their children Shelley and Jacey Church, all of Sharon Springs; his children Tessa Henry of Los Angeles, California; and Judson Church of Laramie, Wyoming; mother and step-father Bobby (Jim) Butkovich of Thornton, Colorado; father Rob Church (Carla Green) of Joes, Colorado; grandparents Detta Walker of Akron, Colorado; Joe Butkovich of Aurora, Colorado; siblings Angie (Brandon) Melkonian of Thornton, Colorado; Eric (Krista) Church of Cope, Colorado; E-3 Cassie Kintzley, USCG, (Owen) of Sitka, Alaska; Ryan Butkovich of Thornton, Colorado; step-siblings Rhonda (Tom) Braun of Kiowa, Colorado; Mark Hitchcock of Denver, Colorado; Adam Hitchcock of Pasadena, California; parents-in-law Dennis and Elizabeth Mattics of Kit Carson, Colorado; sister-in-law Jolyna Behrens (Steve) of Peyton, Colorado; brother-in-law Greg Collins (Amy) of Wray, Colorado
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 27, from 6:00 until 7:00 PM MT, at Holy Ghost Catholic Parish Hall in Sharon Springs.
The funeral will be Thursday, August 29, at 10:30 AM MT, at Arickaree School in rural Anton, Colorado, with Pastor Terry Covert officiating. Burial will follow in the Cope Cemetery at Cope, Colorado.
