Juanita "Bloom" Whelan

Juanita Audrey Hinnen “Bloom” Whelan 93, longtime resident of Goodland, KS passed away peacefully at the Goodland Regional Medical Center on May 11, 2022, with family at her bedside.

She was the daughter of Fred Hinnen and Greta Sorrell. Juanita graduated from Clifton High School Class of 1946 in Clifton, KS, and enjoyed attending the yearly class reunions until 3 years ago.

On July 12, 1946, she married D. Lyle Bloom in Morganville, KS. The couple had 4 children Sondra, Tadd, Jody and Ty.

When her children were growing up, she and Lyle were very active with the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Eastern Star, and Shriners. Her greatest joy was attending family activities that involved her children and grandchildren. She was an active member of Eastern Star and in 2005 she received her 50-year pin.

Juanita worked as a bookkeeper all her adult life in Clay Center, KS, Scott City, KS, and Goodland, KS. In 1976 the couple moved to Goodland where they owned and operated B’s Pump and Well, and then in 1979 she and Lyle were co-owners of B-E’s Jewelry in Goodland for 25 years.

Juanita is survived by her children Tadd Bloom, Jody Engel, and Ty Bloom. Grandchildren Candas & Cole Freeman, Lauren Bloom, Audrey Engel & Bob, Ashley Cartmill & James, Mark Engel & Angela, Shelly Morris, Christopher Bloom & Debi, Jennifer Sellers & Danny, Lance Bloom & Brittney, Zachary Bloom & Crystal, Great grandchildren Jaide Freeman, Ronnie Latini, Talon Corke, Teagan Vaughn, Danika Corke, Reese Cartmill, Geoffrey Morris, Jason Morris & Anndee, Jordyn Cole & Trey, Jeremy Engel, Tyke Bloom, Tate Bloom, Tessa Bloom, Everlee Bloom, Elle Bloom, Kamarie Bloom, Kaylee Sellers, Bria Sellers, Isaac Sellers, Jace Sellers, Ian Sellers, Carter Bloom, Sydney Bloom, Tanner Bloom, Clair Bloom, Ethan Bloom, Devin Bloom, Felicity Bloom, and Landon Bloom. She is also survived by brothers Mike & Kathy Hinnen and Robert Hinnen, along with many other family and friends.

Preceding Juanita in death was her spouse D. Lyle Bloom, a daughter Sondra Graham, brother Fred Hinnen, son in law Keith Engel, and grandchildren Pam Atkinson, David Engel and Kily Bloom.
