Longtime Greeley County, Kansas resident Joy Anne Edna (Hamann) Sawyer, 85, died Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at Greeley County Hospital Long Term Care in Tribune, Kansas.

She was born September 9, 1929, in Snyder, Nebraska, the daughter of Melva G. (Rozean) and Hans H. Hamann.  She was the oldest child of their six children.  She graduated from Greeley County High School with the class of 1947.

On December 10, 1947, she and Clarence L. Sawyer were married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Tribune, and to them were born four children.  She was appointed Deputy Treasurer for Greeley County on September 1, 1976, and took office as Treasurer for Greeley County on February 4, 1977.  Her memberships included the Tribune United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, Goodland Chapter 122.

Preceding her in death were her parents; infant son Thomas Sawyer; son Timothy Sawyer; brother Hans K. Hamann; sister Mary E. Thon; and niece Karla K. Hand.

Surviving family includes two daughters Virginia “Ginger’ Johnson of Arvada, Colorado; Janine Baehler and her husband Shawn of Sharon Springs; two grandchildren Coltin Baehler of Arapahoe, Colorado; and Morganne Baehler of Lindsborg, Kansas; two brothers Fred Hamann and his wife Janet of Holiday Island, Arkansas; Bill Hamann of Tribune; sister Dorothea Bennett and her husband Bruce Fisher of Tucson, Arizona; brother-in-law Mike Thon of Tribune; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

The memorial service will be Saturday, January 10, at 1:00 PM MT, at the Tribune United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be designated to the Tribune United Methodist Church or the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church (for the Wesley Children’s Choir), and may be left at the service or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main, Goodland, KS  67735-1555.
