Jose Alfaro

March 19, 1933 — May 29, 2015

Longtime Goodland, Kansas resident Jose Cano “Joe” Alfaro, 82, died Friday, May 29, 2015, at Good Samaritan Society—Sherman County.

He was born March 19, 1933, at Robstown, Texas, the son of Estefano (Cano) and Pedro Alfaro.  His education included an associate degree at Saint Mary University in San Antonio, Texas.   From 1953 through 1955, he served his country in the United States Army.

On July 26, 1964, he and Martha Avelar were married in Wisconsin, and in 1967, they moved from Plainview, Texas, to make their home in Goodland.
His memberships included Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Goodland, and American Legion in Crystal City, Texas.  He had been the chief of police in Goodland.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Surviving family includes his wife Martha Alfaro of Goodland; his children from his first marriage Joe Alfaro, Jr.; Leticia Santo, both of Plainview, Texas; Angie Flores of New Mexico; Debra Alfaro of Plainview, Texas; children of Joe and Martha Linda Alfaro of Dallas, Texas; JoAnn Rivera of Hutchinson; Charles Alfaro of Goodland; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister Marta Mallagan of El Paso, Texas; brother Pedro Alfaro, Jr. of Carrizo Springs, Texas.

Vigil and rosary will be Wednesday, June 3, at 6:00 PM MT, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Goodland, with Sister Janet LeDuc leading.  Memorial Mass for the Deceased will be Thursday, June 4, at 10:00 AM MT, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, with Father Norbert Dlabal presiding.  Inurnment, with military honors, will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be designated to OLPH Catholic Church, and may be left at the services, or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main, Goodland, KS  67735-1555.  Online condolences:  www.koonsfuneralhome.com
