Jon David Sheldon

Lifelong Kanorado, KS resident, Jon David Sheldon, 85, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024 at the Topside Manor Nursing Home in Goodland.

 Jon was born on May 2, 1938 in Goodland, KS to Harvey and Nellie (Bader) Sheldon. He was their only child.  He grew up in rural Kanorado and graduated from Kanorado High School in 1956.

 On June 8, 1963, he married Connie Sivey in Kanorado.  To this union, two children, Shad and Tonya were born.

 Jon worked for the Kanorado Coop for over 35 years and was the Kanorado Fire Chief many of those years.  Although he enjoyed his career, his real passion was in the need for speed; chasing coyotes throughout NW Kansas,  building coyote “hoopies” and out running the KHP in his modified cars. He also thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors; hunting turkey, deer, antelope & elk and of course fishing for anything that was biting. He wasn’t an accomplished athlete but was passionate in watching his kids and grandkids participate in all sports, even refereeing some debates out on the softball field. Jon was also a lifelong member of the Goodland Elks Lodge, the VFW and the NRA. 

 Preceding him in death were his parents, and wife Connie.  He is survived by his son Shad (Penny) Sheldon of Baldwin City, Kansas and daughter Tonya (Summer) Sheldon of San Jacinto, CA.  He is also survived by two grandchildren; Kade Sheldon of Austin, TX and Courtney (Tyler) Cook of Overland Park, KS; two great grandchildren Ryan and Cru Cook of Overland Park KS.

 Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 10:00 AM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland, KS with Pastor Gordon Pettibone officiating.  Burial will follow in the Kanorado Cemetery, Kanorado, KS.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the Funeral Home.

 Memorial contributions may be made to the Kanorado Senior Center or to the Sherman County Community Foundation and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS 67735.
