Fredericksburg, Virginia resident Jerry Lynn Light, 66, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2013.
He was born Monday, November 18, 1946, the son of Glenn and Jennie Light at St. Francis, Kansas. Jerry grew up in Sherman County, Kansas, graduated from Goodland High School with the class of 1964, and also from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. He remained an avid fan of the K-State Wildcats and was a huge fan of all spectator sports, especially football, basketball, and car racing.
Jerry fought a brave battle from injuries sustained in an accident in 2001, which left him as a paraplegic. His siblings each cared for his medical needs at his home in Virginia until a fulltime caregiver was found. After a long recovery and healing period, he was able to return to his career as an economist for the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, and just recently retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Jennie Light.
He is survived by brothers Dale Light and his wife Rita of Goodland; David Light and his wife Janis of Wickenburg, Arizona; sister Iris Gotchall and her husband Pete of Plano, Texas; several nieces and nephews; and Marie Green, his caretaker of five years.
The funeral will be Monday, September 16, at 9:00 AM MT, at Koons Chapel in Goodland, with Reverend Shelly Petz officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.
Friends may share their respects on Sunday, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM MT, at Koons Chapel in Goodland.
