Lifelong Wallace County, Kansas resident Jerome Sylvester “Pete” Bussen, 88, died Thursday, June 11, 2015, at Wallace County Community Care Center in Sharon Springs, Kansas.
He was born April 9, 1927, at Wallace, Kansas, the son of Barbara (Fueser) and Theodore J. Bussen. He attended Gill School in Logan County, Kansas.
From September 25, 1945 through January 31, 1947, he served his country in the United States Army. Following his service, he returned to Wallace County to farm. He and Mary Lamontte were married, and later divorced. He was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. Paleontology was the hobby that he enjoyed.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers Nicholas, Leo, Lawrence, Norbert; and sister Leona Nutsch.
Surviving family includes daughter Marissa Bussen of Tickfaw, Louisiana; two brothers Raymond Bussen and his wife Shirley of Wallace; Richard Bussen and his wife Antoinette of Armada, Michigan; sister Margaret Hoss of Wallace; and nieces, nephews, and friends.
Vigil and Rosary will be Sunday, June 14, at 4:30 PM MT, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Sharon Springs.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, June 15, at 10:00 AM MT, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Sharon Springs, with Father Norbert Dlabal presiding. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Wallace Cemetery.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be designated to Knights of Columbus, and may be left at the services, or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main, Goodland, KS 67735-1555.
