Janis Pritts

Janis Louise (Whitmore) Pritts was born to Ray and Verde Whitmore in a sod house in Scott County, KS November 21, 1932. She passed away April 17, 2020 after family farewells.

Janis is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Everett "Ed" Pritts, her son Timothy Carl, and her brother David Whitmore.

She is survived by siblings: Dr. Richard (Shirley) Whitmore, Josie Bonorris, Jim (Kathy) Whitmore, Ethel (Richard) VanCampen; and her children: Vivian (Marshall) Lane, Kathi (John) Majernik, Marjorie (Mike) Dodd, and John Carl, Jr.

She had 7 grandchildren: Casey Vetter, Calvin Dodd, Amanda Truan, Katie Cupp, Matthew Majernik, Melissa and Michael Carl.  Janis also had 11 great-grandchildren: Colten, Darian, Isis, Jake, Coy, Paige, Abigail, Audrey, Addison, Alexandria and Zachariah "Ry".

As a young girl she worked in Scott County as a waitress, milking cows for neighbors and caring young children. In Oklahoma she worked as a cook and also worked in pediatrics. She worked as a CNA in nursing homes and hospitals. She had good work ethics and took many different jobs that were available.

She persevered and was a strong lady even though she had a rough life raising 5 children on her own. Janis and her 5 kids moved to Goodland in 1968, where she accomplished getting her GED in 1969.  She also held a job as secretary in Goodland, KS where she met her second husband Ed, and they were married in 1973.

Janis found joy and comfort in spending time with her family with whom she had the most loving heart. Her smile radiated with happiness when she held a baby.  Jan will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her well.
