Cheyenne Wells, Colorado resident Jack M. Steele, 82, died Monday, April 21, 2014, at Logan County Hospital in Oakley, Kansas.
He was born September 9, 1931, at Weskan, Kansas, the son of Mary Julia (Johnston) and John Lee Steele. Schools that he attended throughout his life included Weskan, Limon, Wichita State University, Arapahoe Community College, San Diego City College, welding school, and Reppert’s Auctioneer School.
On October 25, 1952, he and Jeanne Marie Wilson were married at San Diego, California. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1950 through 1954. He was a farmer and a rancher. His memberships included Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and Elks.
Preceding him in death were his wife Jeanne Steele, parents, brother Roy Lee “Johnny” Steele, and sister Melba Jo Steele.
Surviving family includes five children Cynthia Henry and her husband Mark; Deborah Steele, all of Cheyenne Wells, Colorado; Jack Matthew Steele of Arapahoe, Colorado; James Michael Steele of Centennial, Colorado; Janette Dickey and her husband Brian of Cheyenne Wells, Colorado; eleven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; and sister Flora Webb of Sharon Springs, Kansas.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, April 26, at 10:00 AM, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cheyenne Wells, with Father Rafael Torres presiding. Burial will follow in the Weskan, Kansas Cemetery.
Vigil and rosary will be Friday, at 7:00 PM, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Memorials may be designated to Logan County Hospital (to be used towards the Quiet Room), and may be left at the services or mailed to The Eastern Colorado Bank, P.O. Box 888, Cheyenne Wells, CO 80810.
