Longtime Weskan, Kansas resident Imogene A. Waugh, 90, died Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Prairie Village Retirement Community in Sharon Springs, Kansas.
She was born July 12, 1923, at Gypsum, Kansas, the daughter of Anna Elizabeth (Schultz) and George Stein. She grew up on the family farm, the sixth of seven children. She graduated from Gypsum High School in 1941 and entered Kansas Wesleyan University, graduating in 1945 with a teaching degree. Her first teaching job was in Weskan.
On August 3, 1947, she and Edward M. Waugh were married at Gypsum, and they made their home in Wallace County, Kansas, where they farmed. She was active in the Weskan Community, serving for many years as treasurer for the school district and for the Weskan United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and keeping the home place looking nice. She was a member of the Weskan United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and American Association of University Women.
Preceding her in death was her husband Edward M. Waugh, who died May 15, 2010. Also preceding her in death were her parents and siblings, Theodore, Thurston, Mary Elizabeth, Kenneth, and Adrian.
Surviving family includes her daughter Marilynn Mohlenhoff and her husband Jack of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; granddaughter Katie Mohlenhoff of Salt Lake City, Utah; grandson Jonathan Mohlenhoff of Sioux Falls; sister Virginia Howe of Queen Creek, Arizona; brother-in-law Elmer (Gerry) Waugh of Slayton, Texas; sister-in-law Frances Maricle of Goodland, Kansas; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
The funeral will be Thursday, May 22, at 10:30 AM MT, at the Weskan Bible Church, with Pastor Tim Cress officiating. Burial will follow in the Weskan Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM MT at the church prior to the service.
Memorials may be designated to Weskan Schools USD 242, and may be left at the service or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main, Goodland, KS 67735-1555.
