Longtime Sharon Springs, Kansas resident Helen Josephine Cowles, 104, died Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Prairie Village Retirement Community in Sharon Springs.
She was born March 15, 1910, in Logan County, Kansas, the daughter of Jessie (Travis) and Ernest Cook. She graduated from high school at Oakley, Kansas, with the class of 1928, and from college at Kansas State University in Manhattan, with the class of 1932.
On July 4, 1937, she and Marion A. Cowles, Jr. were married at Kiowa, Colorado, and they made their home in Sharon Springs.
Preceding her in death were her husband Marion Cowles, Jr.; daughter Janet Van Allen; her parents; brother Merwin Cook; and sisters Merle Rammelsberg and Norma Roper.
Surviving family includes her son Michael Cowles and his wife Rita of Sharon Springs; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and brother Norman Cook and his wife Gloria of Mesa, Arizona.
A private memorial inurnment will be at the Sharon Springs Cemetery.
