Longtime Goodland, Kansas resident Esther Leona Splattstoesser, 89, died Saturday, November 9, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Care Center in Norfolk, Nebraska.
She was born August 23, 1924, in Franklin County, Nebraska, the daughter of Anna (Beck) and Ezra Reams. After graduating in 1942 from high school in Franklin County, she furthered her education with Normal School Training, and then she taught school for the next five years in the rural districts in Franklin County.
On January 27, 1946, she and Walter Splattstoesser were married at Franklin, Nebraska. In 1950, they decided to move to Sherman County, Kansas, purchasing land north of Goodland. She was an active member in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church and Circle, as well as teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Happy Hour Extension Unit, Advisory Board, 4-H Leader for the Beaver Valley Club, and square dancing with Walter were activities that she enjoyed.
Preceding her in death were her husband Walter Splattstoesser, her parents, and two brothers Theodore Reams and Ronald Reams.
Surviving family includes her son Gary Splattstoesser and his wife Kay of Colby, Kansas; daughter Nadine Aufdembrink and her husband Fred of Norfolk, Nebraska; eleven grandchildren Wade Splattstoesser of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; Chance Splattstoesser and his wife Lisa of Angora, Nebraska; Kelley Andrews and her husband Jotham of York, Nebraska; Jackie Summers and her husband Steve of Colby; Dustin Splattstoesser of Colby; Lauren Aufdembrink, Amy Aufdembrink, and Benjamin Audembrink, all of Norfolk, Nebraska; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday, November 16, at 10:30 AM MT, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Goodland, with Pastor Darian Hybl officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.
Friends may share their respects on Friday, from 3:00 until 7:00 PM MT, at Koons Chapel in Goodland.
