Eddie Emig

July 20, 1941 — February 3, 2015

Lifelong Sherman County, Kansas resident Eddie Darrel Emig, 73, died Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital in Burlington, Colorado.

He was born July 20, 1941, in Goodland, Kansas, the son of Helen (Murray) and George Fredrick Emig.  He attended school at Ruleton, and graduated from Sherman Community High School with the class of 1959.  He served his country in the United States Army, November 13, 1963 through August 14, 1965.

On December 1, 1970, he and Monica Iris Kerns were married, and they made their home in rural Sherman County.  He lived on the same farmstead since he was four years old.  His mom and dad moved to a mobile home on the farmstead, so that Ed, Monica, and their family could live in the original farmhouse.  For twenty-five years, Ed and Monica successfully ran the “Hidden Valley Sheep Ranch”, along with a little farming.  Besides his family, he helped care for his father, mother, grandmother, and other family members as they needed assistance.  One cousin put it, “He made life happier for others simply by his cheerful disposition and laughter.”

Preceding him in death were his parents and brother, George Fredrick Emig, Jr.

Surviving family includes his wife Monica of Goodland; son Justin Emig of Goodland; step-son Jeff Henderson and his wife Anita of Goodland; step-daughter Roxanne Henderson of Buckeye, Arizona; two grandchildren Tyler Henderson, his wife Deanna, and their daughter Ella of Goodland; Casey Henderson of Goodland; sister Jean Tellessen of Goodland; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Saturday, February 7, at 10:00 AM MT, at Calvary Gospel Church in Goodland, with Pastor Randy Payne officiating.  Burial, with military honors, will follow at the Goodland Cemetery.

Friends may share their respects on Friday, from 3:00 until 7:00 PM MT, at Koons Chapel in Goodland.  The family will be present from 3:00 until 5:00 PM MT.

Memorials may be designated to Sherman County Community Service (Home-owned Carnival) or NW Kansas Animal Shelter, and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N Main, Goodland, KS  67735-1555.
