On May 2, 2017, Dr. Raymond Harold (Buddy) Thorpe, DC passed away at the age of 71 at home in Goodland, Kansas. He was the first of four children of Ada and Ray Thorpe, born May 3, 1946 in Goodland and graduated from Goodland High School in 1964. He served as an Army medic in Vietnam near the end of the war and later graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic College in 1970 and began his practice in Hoxie retiring in 2014 after 44 years.
Raymond married Martha Louise Perrey in 1975. He was preceded in death by his wife Martha in 2007, his father and mother Ada and Ray Thorpe, his step-father Russell Taylor and his uncle William Sandy. Surviving family members include his step-son D.J. Perrey of Soddy Daisy, TN, sisters Mary Jane and Lorna Thorpe of Goodland and sister Susan Thorpe of Tucson, AZ, his uncle Norman and wife Mary Sandy of Littleton, CO and aunt Mary Anna Ullrich of Lawrence, KS.
Raymond was devoted to his profession and helping people and loved his patients, community and many, many friends. He enjoyed and drove his collection of 1970's Lincolns and did not own a newer car. He loved music, especially the big band music of the 40’s. He was very active in the community and was involved in the Hoxie Hot Rodders and Lions Club volunteering for the car shows, drag races, Sheridan County Fair and Friends of the Cottonwood Ranch. He will be greatly missed by his community, all his friends and family.
He requested cremation with no formal service, and will be buried in the Hoxie Cemetery. There will be a memorial gathering at the Cottonwood Ranch in Sheridan County on Saturday, May 13, 2017 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM CST and he will be remembered at the car show on June 17th in Hoxie.
