Dorothy Palmer

Lifelong Sherman County, Kansas resident Dorothy Palmer, 84, died Thursday, June 18, 2015, at her home in Goodland, Kansas.

She was born July 6, 1930, on the family farm north of Goodland, in Sherman County, the daughter of Christina (Schlepp) and Henry Zimbelman.  She graduated with the class of 1949 from Sherman Community High School in Goodland.

On November 10, 1951, she and Eldon Palmer were married at Waynesville, Missouri, and they made their home in Goodland.  She was a thoughtful neighbor, good friend, loving wife for sixty-three years, and a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Her greatest joy was having visitors stop by, and she always had cookies or cake ready to serve.  She had been a secretary at the Sherman County Courthouse, a cook at Goodland High School, and a supply clerk at Goodland Regional Medical Center.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Goodland.

Preceding her in death were her parents; infant brother Jacob, brothers Edwin Zimbelman; Rudy Zimbelman and his wife Nancy; Don Zimbelman and his wife Ann; and sister Helen Chadwick.

Surviving family includes husband Eldon Palmer of Goodland; two daughters Marilyn Preuit and her husband Ron of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia; Diane Kent and her husband Kelly of Westminster, Colorado; grandchildren Jennifer Preuit Willhide and her husband Aaron of Frederick,  Maryland;  Chris Preuit of San Diego, California; April Kinkade  and her children Amber and Anthony of Lakewood, Colorado; Michelle Kinkade and her son Jaxon of Lakewood, Colorado; brother Alvin Zimbelman and his wife Sylvia of Goodland; and sister Darlene Merklin and her husband Leon of St. Francis.

The funeral will be Saturday, June 20, at 2:00 PM MT, at First United Methodist Church in Goodland, with Reverend Lew Van Der Wege officiating.  Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.

Friends may share their respects on Friday, June 19, from 4:00 until 6:00 PM MT, at Koons Chapel in Goodland.
