Richard Charley Anderson, lovingly known as “Dick,” passed away peacefully on Christmas Day, December 25, 2024, at the age of 85, after battling numerous health-related issues. Born on June 13, 1939, to Reuben Charley Anderson and Anna Irene Anderson (Shirley), Dick’s life was a testament to resilience, hard work, and unwavering love for his family and community.
In his early years, Dick faced profound tragedy when, at the age of three, he lost his mother in a cellar explosion. Despite this, he grew up surrounded by the love and support of his father, siblings James (Jim), Kathryn (Kay) and Charlene, and the neighboring women who stepped in to help care for the family. Years later, Reuben remarried Viola Schaal, and Dick welcomed two younger siblings, Lola and Paul, into the family.
Dick began his education at Beaver Valley, a country school, and later attended Burlington schools, graduating in 1957. In March 1961, he proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving his country honorably until his discharge in March 1964.
Throughout his life, Dick was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. He worked for Horner Construction, farmed, raised cattle, and spent the final two decades of his career as a mechanic for the City of Burlington. He cherished the camaraderie and friendships he built with his coworkers during those years.
Dick is survived by his devoted wife, Janice (Jan) Anderson (Conrardy), with whom he shared a lifetime of love and cherished memories. He leaves behind two daughters, Tammy Weisshaar and Becky (Delane) Hasik, as well as his beloved grandchildren: Skyler (Brianna) Weisshaar, Tegan Hasik, DaMara (Shane) Laverenz, Payton Hasik, Ethan (Kalyn) Weisshaar, and Jeron Hasik. Dick was also blessed with four great-grandchildren: Brooklyn and Fenix Weisshaar, Kelsea Laverenz, and Bekam Charley Weisshaar, who brought immense joy to his later years.
Additionally, Dick is survived by his sister Charlene (James), brother Paul, and numerous nieces and nephews who loved and admired him deeply.
Dick will be remembered as a kind, hardworking, and steadfast man who faced life’s challenges with strength and grace. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
Rest in peace, Dick. Your legacy of love, resilience, and strength will live on in the hearts of those who loved you.
