Longtime Goodland, Kansas resident Dean Jensen, 75, died Friday, February 21, 2014, at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.
He was born August 1, 1938, at the family home in Burlington, Colorado, the son of Lena Irene (Blackburn) and Jens Christian Jensen. He attended school in Burlington until 1949, and then continued his school years in Goodland when the family moved there. He graduated from Sherman Community High School with the class of 1957.
He and Loree Sheldon were married and to this union three children were born: Penny, Roxann and Randy. In 1971, he married Karen Parish, adding her two daughters Kyle and Kody to the family.
While the children were growing up, their favorite family pastime was water skiing at the lake. All the children learned to water ski, being taught by their parents. Many weekends and vacations were spent at the lake.
Mr. Jensen was a member of the Goodland BPOE #1528 Elks Lodge, attaining the office of Exalted Ruler, and serving that position in 1979—1980. He was also a member of the Kansas Firefighters Association. His favorite occupation was serving on the Goodland Fire Department as a volunteer for twenty years. He then was the Fire Chief for the department for another eighteen years. Dean retired in 2006.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers Robert Jensen and Kenneth Jensen; sister Marie Bartlett and her husband Jim; and Brandi Bahe, fiancé of Ryder Kling.
Surviving family includes his wife Karen of the home in Goodland; children Penny (Tom) Livengood of Kanorado; Roxann (Rodney) Kling; Kyle (Marty) Elliott; Randy (Devona) Jensen, and Kody (Rich) Simon, all of Goodland; grandchildren Tyson (Jacque) Livengood, Aaron (Lacy) Gittinger, Quennton McCombs, Brooke (Brian) Bauman, Brielle Jensen, Rory Kling and fiancé Marisa Acuff, and Ryder Kling; great-grandchildren Brecken and Bayler Bauman, Blayze Livengood, Brooke and Blake Drennan, Kaizen Bates, and Brylee Bahe; sister-in-law Margie Jensen of Goodland; brother-in-law Gary (Dottie) Wittmuss of Carson City, Nevada.
The funeral service will be on Wednesday, February 26, at 10:00 AM MT, at the First United Methodist Church in Goodland, with Reverend Shelly Petz officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.
Friends may share their respects on Tuesday, February 25, from 3:00 until 7:00 PM MT, at Koons Chapel in Goodland.
