Longtime Sherman County, Kansas resident Darrel Willems, 77, died Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at Good Samaritan Society—Sherman County in Goodland, Kansas.
John Darrel Willems was born June 23, 1937, in Thomas County, Kansas, the son of Helen (Friesen) and John C. Willems. He graduated from Oakley High School with the class of 1955. He served his country in the National Guard.
On December 27, 1960, he and Judith C. Ochsner were married at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Goodland, and they made their home in Colby. In 1964, they moved to Sherman County, where they continued farming. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
Preceding him in death were his wife Judy Willems, who died January 29, 2013; his parents; brother Robert Willems; and two sisters Luella Decker and Mary Ann Wassemiller.
Surviving family includes daughter Lezlee Willems of Sacramento, California; two sons Kyle Willems and his fiancé Lori Taylor of Goodland; Kent Willems, his wife Shelly, and their daughter Kaylee of Goodland.
The memorial service will be Thursday, February 19, at 10:00 AM MT, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Goodland, with Pastor Darian Hybl officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.
Memorials may be designated to Good Samaritan Society—Sherman County, Hospice Services of Sherman County, or Emmanuel Lutheran Church, and may be left at the service or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main, Goodland, KS 67735-1555.
