Corky was born to Clyde and Emma Mullis on July 2, 1945 in Burlington, Colorado. She was the youngest of 4 children. She got the name Corky from her oldest brother because he couldn’t say Cordelia. She saw every movie that he made more times than you can count. As a young girl she enjoyed “dragging main” with her girlfriends, roller skating and going to the movie theatre. She was a member of the Four Square Church in Burlington. It was at one of the church skating parties where she met Loran Monroe. The two got married in June of 1963 after Corky graduated from High school. They lived in Goodland, Kansas until after their first daughter was born when they moved back to Burlington where their other 3 daughters were born. While in Burlington, Corky babysat for a friend. She was a member of the Rebekah’s for many years.
In 1973, the family moved to a farm north of Stratton where she helped with the dairy and farming. She also raised 300 chickens for family members and gardened. Corky also enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She was a 4-H leader for 16 years when her children were in 4-H.
In 1993, she and Loran separated and she moved back to Burlington where she went to work for Alco. She worked there for over 20 years until they closed and she retired. She enjoyed her job and visiting with the customers. She always said she missed the people after she quit working.
