Lifelong Sharon Springs, Kansas resident Billy D. Whitney, 73, died Thursday, May 29, 2014, at his home.
He was born April 20, 1941, in Sharon Springs, Kansas, the son of Hazel Marguerite (Baehler) and Glenn Darius Whitney. He graduated from Alameda High School in Lakewood, Colorado.
On December 18, 1966, he and Wilma June Armstrong were married, and they made their home in Sharon Springs. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Preceding him in death were his son Dallas Dean Whitney; his parents; step-mother Mae Whitney; and sister Donna Dillow.
Surviving family includes his wife Wilma Whitney of Sharon Springs; daughter Charity Horinek and her husband Mark of Sublette; daughter Tiffany Ochs and her husband Troy of Emporia; eight grandchildren Lorrin Ochs, Cassidy Ochs, both of Emporia; Hope Horinek, Hannah Horinek, Noah Horinek, Elizabeth Horinek, Ainsley Horinek, and Trelawney Horinek, all of Sublette; sisters Glennis Perkins and her husband David of Lakewood, Colorado; Karen Whitney of Las Vegas, Nevada; Twila Whitney of Bakersfield, California; Sherry Whitney and her fiancé Michael Guerdes of Calimesa, California; brother-in-law Arbie Dillow of Lakewood, Colorado; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The funeral will be Wednesday, June 4, at 11:00 AM MT, at the United Methodist Church in Sharon Springs, with Pastor Keith Anglemyer and Reverend Paul McNall officiating. Burial will follow in the Sharon Springs Cemetery.
Friends may share their respects with the family on Tuesday, from 3:00 until 7:00 PM MT, at Koons Funeral Home in Sharon Springs.
