Longtime Goodland, KS resident Billy Joe Thornburg, 74, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2021 at the Goodland Regional Medical Center in Goodland.
Bill was born on September 12, 1946 in Perryton, TX to Lilburn Joe and Nellie Lilian (Hood) Thornburg. He was one of four children. The family moved to Goodland, where Bill graduated from Goodland High School in 1967. He then went on to attend Vo-Tech College in Goodland in the Drafting Department.
On June 8, 1968, Bill married Kay Boudreau at the Brewster United Methodist Church. To this union, one son, Neal was born.
Bill loved working construction and in his younger days he worked for Caldwell’s setting up mobile homes. Later in life, Bill started Bill’s Shootin Shop in Goodland, where he enjoyed visiting with people from all over. He loved hunting, and fishing, collecting football cards. He especially loved to Goose Hunt.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
He is survived by his wife Kay of the home, his son Neal (Stacy) Thornburg of Goodland, three grandchildren; Chantel Thornburg and Fiancé Hollister Jones of Ellis, KS, Kim (Dale) Brungardt of Colby, KS and Sydnee Thornburg of Dallas, TX; one great grandchild, Fairlane Brungardt and one on the way. He is also survived by two brothers; Gerald Thornburg and Larry Thornburg, one sister Norma Kuehler, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
