Lifelong Sherman County, Kansas resident Beulah May (Franklin) Cress, 93, died Saturday, December 13, 2014, at Kenwood View Rehabilitation Center in Salina, Kansas.
She was born May 7, 1921, in rural Sherman County, Kansas, the daughter of Artie May (Melstrom) and Garfield Franklin. Artie May, born February 23, 1883, was the first child born in Sherman County, Kansas. Beulah graduated from Sherman Community High School with the class of 1939. Following her graduation, she became a teacher in a one-room school.
On July 3, 1945, she and Clarence Franklin “Frank” Cress were married, and they made their home in rural Sherman County. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Home Church.
Preceding her in death were her husband Frank Cress, who died February 12, 2000; her parents; three brothers Roy Franklin, Floyd Franklin, and Orval Franklin; and one sister Ada Eggers.
Surviving family includes her four children Dallas Cress and his wife Peg of Arvada, Colorado; Earl Cress of rural Sherman County; Lester Cress and his wife Brenda of rural Sherman County; and Linda Newquist and her husband Waldo of Salina; 4 granddaughters; 3 step-granddaughters; 10 great-grandchildren; and 7 step-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday, December 19, at 10:00 AM MT, at Pleasant Home Church in rural Sherman County, with Pastor Perry Baird officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.
Friends may share their respects on Thursday, from 3:00 until 7:00 PM MT, at Koons Chapel in Goodland. The family will be present from 5:00 until 7:00 PM MT.
Memorials may be designated to Pleasant Home Church, and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N Main, Goodland, KS 67735-1555.
