Former Goodland, Kansas resident Betty Adell Berg, 94, surrendered to God on April 27, 2015, in Coppell, Texas.
She was born April 26, 1921, in Lexington, Nebraska, the daughter of Pearl Leorean (Mowry) and Raymond Calvin Young. On April 20, 1940, she and Ainan A. Berg were married at North Platte, Nebraska. Betty and Ainan owned Berg’s Leather Shop at 1624 Main in Goodland for several years. She enjoyed all of the young people who stopped in, and took pride in making leather chaps for the rodeo gang. She did artistic and remarkable work with a piece of leather. There were two words that she never used in her vocabulary, and those were “I can’t”. She always worked hard to achieve her goals. Betty was also a member of Eastern Star in Goodland.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Ainan, who passed away on August 30, 1981; son Terry Lee, and brother Verlin D. Young.
Surviving family includes her son Byron R. Berg and his wife Judy of Goodland; daughter Susan D. VanPelt and her husband Bill of Fremont, Nebraska; son Ainan E. Berg of Coppell, Texas; five grandchildren Bob Berg, Vickie Edwards, Tim Pacello, Jamie Weigand, and Ben VanPelt; seven great-grandchildren; brother Jim Young and his wife Pat of Okeechobee, Florida; sister Alice Mae Hughes and her husband Chuck of Phoenix, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.
The memorial graveside service will be on Saturday, May 16, at 1:00 PM MT, at the Goodland Cemetery.
Memorials may be designated to the Betty Berg Memorial, and may be left at the service or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main, Goodland, KS 67735-1555.
