Berna (Eliason) Biem, age 92, died at the Southern Hills Nursing Home in Tulsa, OK on Sunday December 2, 2012. She had been a resident at the Home for the last year and a half.
Berna was born December 12, 1919 in Opheim, MT. She was the daughter of Olaf and Selma (Holmes) Eliason. She joined a brother, Hollis. Joining the family in the following years were 7 siblings, Orpha, Arlene, LeRoy, Glen, Delores, Dorlene, and Orval. Berna received her schooling in Opheim, MT. The family farmed in the Opheim area.
On October 4, 1938, Berna married Anard Biem in Glasgow. They moved to Seattle, WA. for a brief time and returned to Opheim during world war II. Berna and Anard owned and operated the Willie Wesco Propane Service in Opheim and also farmed in the Opheim area. Berna was also a cook at the Opheim café and at the Opheim School. She also worked for Mountain Bell telephone.
In 1973 they moved to Goodland, KS to open the B&D Ditching and Backhoe Service. While in Goodland, Berna was involved and volunteered in the Senior Citizens Center, the Lutheran Church. and the Buckles Camping Club. She was a volunteer at the Goodland Hospital. Berna was also involved in many other community projects such as the up with trees improvements and the artistic Sunflower project.
Berna moved to Tulsa, OK. to be closer to her daughters in 2000, where she resided at the Broadmore Senior Living Center. She then lived with a daughter in the Jones, OK area for 3 years and in 2010 moved to the Southern Hills Nursing Home in Tulsa.
Berna is survived by two sisters, one brother, two daughters Joan Beohler and Karen Donovan, 4 grandsons, 12 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
The graveside memorial service will be Tuesday, May 14, 2:00 PM MT, at the Goodland Cemetery, with inurnment in the Goodland Cemetery.
